Project Selection Criteria

Imagine that you work for this company, and you are a part of the project selection committee tasked with choosing which projects the company will undertake this fiscal year.

Based upon the strategic plan for the Service Agency, determine five criteria that you would use to evaluate project opportunities for your organization. REMEMBER! These criteria are the same for every project considered all year. They are based upon the organization's mission, vision and goals, and their purpose is to enable the organization to evaluate any proposed project to determine how well that project fits the organizational objectives. For each criteria you chose:

• Explain the criteria
• Explain why you chose it (i.e., what information in the strategic plan caused you to feel this criteria is important to the company?)
• Tell how you would weight it

Your job here is to determine what the priorities of this company are because they will want to evaluate competing projects in light of their priorities. For example, in the case study given, National Parks and Conservation department has a mandate to protect biodiversity, so the extent to which a project improved biodiversity was an important factor as to whether or not they'd choose that particular project. What is important to our hypothetical company? What would be their driving factors when choosing between competing projects?
