Journal Entry The characters in “Spirit of the Night” are seen as ‘Bad Boys”, a correlation which can also be made tothe story “Greasy Lake” (Bruce). In the song, the characters are generally associated with evil things. Take for instance, crazy Billy together with his friends who opt to go to Greasy Lake to see some night dancers and drink alcohol till dusk. In the song, it appears that the clergy man is in a relationship with Jane. In addition, as the boys go to Greasy Lake to have fun, after getting drunk, it appears that they entered into a fight and one of them was knocked down (Bruce).

In “Greasy Lake”, the three characters are portrayed as ‘bad boys.’ In their attempt to carry out a prank on their friend in Greasy Lake, they accidentally did it on a wrong person and hell broke loose. Some of them got injured in the brawl and had a car damaged (Boyles). These boys liked to be associated with bad things as described in the story. They also portrayed a bad image of themselves by wearing torn leather jackets and smoking what people thought to be cocaine. The boys experienced a bad situation at the lake that changed their perspective as ‘bad boys’ in the end of the story (Boyles).
