Provide a 5 pages analysis while answering the following question: Theories of Drug Abuse- Deviant Behavior. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. For instance the forces are not genetic, biological or psychological (Thio, 2010). These theories use wider and often abstract facts and notions to justify drug use and abuse. These theorists tend to emphasis on the social connotation of drugs use, standards, and outlines concerning their use in certain locations, and effects of drugs abuse. According to Thio (2010), people are not born criminals or drug users but they acquire the deviant behaviors from the society around them. Individuals within the society are also inclined toward increasing self- awareness. therefore, everybody has the ability to carry out crime or indulge in deviant behaviors (Thio, 2010).

Therefore, societal theories focus on how certain groups of individuals tend to be implicated in drug addiction or use. They assume that, use of drugs is a socially cultured behavior. Individuals use drugs because those who use drugs in the society model other drug users (Thio, 2010). Environmental factors such as advertisement contribute to the use of drugs within the society. They tend to focus on the individual in terms of how the groups in the society influence drug use and abuse. The social contexts determine the definitions of drug abuse, effects of drugs, drug retaliated problems, and drug experience among those who use drugs (Thio, 2010).

Psychological theories focus on concentrate mainly on the type of personal experiences, which can make one more liable to drug addiction and drug use. These theories recognize cause of drug use as abnormal individual development (Thio, 2010). Personal theories suggest that grounded on the concept that addiction is an indicator of an exclusive kind of personality because individuals who use substances suffer from a sociopathic character associated with drug or substance use (Thio, 2010).
