  • Identify the eight Part I offenses as defined by the Uniform Crime Report.
  • Determine when police officers are justified in using reasonable force and deadly force.
  • Indicate situations in which a Miranda warning is required.
  • Explain the basic protections afforded to citizens by the 4th and 5th Amendments.
  • Identify the four main philosophies of sentencing: Retribution, Deterrence, Incapacitation, and Rehabilitation
  • Explain differences between juvenile status offenders and juvenile delinquency.

Requirements:  

  1. Choose any career in criminal justice that interests you (Examples:  police, investigator, security, corrections, probation/parole, attorney, judge, etc.).  
  2. Use the LRC (in Canvas) or Questia (in MindTap) to research your chosen career field.
  3. Choose a minimum of three (3) references that discuss your career.
  4. Provide an overview of the career, the primary duty responsibilities, the skill requirements, the educational requirements, and the typical hiring process.
  5. Present your findings in one of two formats:  a research paper or a Power Point presentation (feel free to be creative!). 

Final LRC Project (150 points)- Submit your Final LRC Project.  

NOTE:  This LRC Project is worth a total of 200 points (20%) of your overall grade.
