QUESTION 1 : INVESTIGATION OF OLD AIRPORT SYSTEM
The current (old) airport has outdated IT system. For example, the flight database, flight gate scheduling, incoming aircraft registration are on different operating systems. The airport has not centralized IT management system. And, airport’s website and social network are all very old and not meeting the needs of the current market needs. The network connection in the airport are based one very slow data communication networks. The power supply of the airport IT system was not updated based on the demand, therefore there were computer shutdowns because of the weak electrical power distribution system which effects the calculation of the flight departure times. One of the problems that happens is miss-calculation of the flight departure times. Passengers are complaining about wrong flight departure times on the website and the on the TV Screens in the airport.
Draw a Cause & Effect (a.k.a. Fishbone/Ishikawa) diagram for a problem mentioned above (i.e. miss-calculation of the flight departure times) . You should include a main bone to represent the problem, sub-bones to indicate possible reasons for the problem, and horizontal sub-bones to indicate possible causes. Does the diagram help clarify the problem? How? How can the diagram be used to solve the problem?
QUESTION 2: Smart Airport Passenger Processing System (SAPPS) will replace the human administered: ID control, Airport check-in and boarding-pass processes. The new airport will have faster process timing and better security with SAPPS. The passenger will not interact with any officer at this new airport. Once SAPPS installed, the passenger will walk through a passage surrounded by cameras, microphones and other remote readers to do “ID control, Airport check-in and boarding-pass process” all at the same time. Develop Risk Rankings for the new airport project. Here, you would consider only one terminal and provide the risk(threats) the score and the ranking (importance level where 1 means highest importance) in a table format.
QUESTION 3: You will be preparing the Performance Metrics for the new airport case. Consider the Given parameters: Task, Planned Value (PV) , Actual Cost (AC) and Earned Value (EV)
Task
Planned Value
Actual Value
Earned Value
1
Construction/renovation new airport’s terminal
$ 125,000
$130,000
$ 125,000
2
New IT system design
$ 5,000
$6,7000
5,000
3
Training staff
3,000
2,500
3,000
4
Install new IT design
56,000
75,000
60,000
And, Develop the project Performance Metrics ( in Table format). Calculate Cost Variance (CV) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) and explain the findings and let us know if the task is over budget, under budget or is right on budget. And, Calculate Schedule Variance (SV) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and explain the findings and let us know if the task behind schedule, ahead of schedule or is right on schedule
