Freeland ch 5:

Can we argue that contemporary participation by female artists in the creation of art is both a protest and a desire? Protest in a sense that it resists socio-political injustices meted against it, and desire in a sense to acquire greater gender equality? Do you agree with the argument? Why? Why not?

Nochlin:

It is true that women in the past had to deal with specific circumstances that lead to not having a genius of a great female artist. Now after all those years, why don't we have a real phenomenal female artist? everything now is different why we do not have a female Da Vinci?
