Overview

Students in this course must make substantial progress toward the dissertation/DSP Prospectus. The Prospectus will be submitted for instructor and college-level approval by the end of this course. Each Case and SLP in this course facilitate the development of the full Prospectus.

Case Assignment

Identify the population, sample, site, data source, and instruments required for your research study.

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

1. Research Site and/or Population
   1. Describe the characteristics of the population you will study. A population is the large collection of individuals you have identified for your study. If your research takes place within a specific organization or setting, describe the demographics of the entire population.
2. Population and Sample
   1. The sample is the subset of the population who you will contact to participate in your study or include as data in your analysis. Provide details on the sampling method. Specify the type of probability or non-probability sampling (e.g., purposive sampling, convenience sampling, snowball sampling).
3. Data and Instrumentation
   1. Describe any data sets you may want to include. Be sure to discuss if these are publicly available or if you will require permission(s). Identify and describe any data collection instruments you propose to use. If you plan to adapt or develop your own instruments, describe these. Note: The instruments do not need to be created prior to the Prospectus approval. All instruments must be created prior to the proposal defense.

Scholarly Writing: Proficiency in scholarly writing, following required structure and organization of the assignment, using relevant and quality sources to support ideas, using in-text citations of sources, and properly formatting references (bibliography).

Professionalism and Timeliness: Taking responsibility for learning; adhering to course requirement policies and expectations; assignment submitted on time or with instructor's pre-approved extension.
