Re - I am writing n Ethical Dilemma paper for my applied Ethics as a human services major. I need to discuss the ethical issues involved when a patient says he is suffering from depression because he assisted in his mother's death. His mother was terminal, had dementia and was suffering. His father is now also terminal but does not have dementia. The father has asked to die the same way the mother did, which was from an overdoes of sleeping and pain pills. NJ law prohibits assisted suicide. The law also requires the therapist to report anyone who is a danger to others. What should I consider when setting a course of action for my client. I know ethics have alot of gray areas and as a counselor my main concern should be on relieving my clients depression. yet as a mandated reporter of the courts do I have a legal or ethical responsibly to report this man even if I were to "protect and warn" the father and I do not feel that the client is a threat to anyone else?
