Read I Kings Chapters 18-19.

Answer the following Questions in an essay of at least 350 words.

Must use at least two scholarly sources and show them within the text.

At first blush, it would seem that Elijah has just had his greatest victory. He had confronted the pagan priests of Baal and had called fire down from heaven to consume his offering. What a glorious day of victory that was for Elijah.  Yet, when we come to chapter 19 he is brooding in defeat. How do you explain this apparent contradiction? What (or "who") was he afraid of here? Knowing what God could do, how do you suppose he found himself in such a funk? What does God do to encourage him? How does this look forward to his replacement with Elisha? Can you think of situations in your own experience where great mountain-top experiences led to  season of depression and discouragement? How did God deal with that in your own life?
