Things to Look For: Conducting Peer Critique for  Paper

During this process you are encouraged to converse with your partner. Please put all your comments on enclosed comment sheet. This is what you will turn in for your grade.

1. Ensure all sections of the Research Paper are included.

Abstract

Introduction (Does not have to be called “Introduction”, but there needs to be separate section that serves as an introduction)

Background (Does not have to be called “Background”, but there needs to be separate section that serves as a Background)

Hypothesis (Proposals Only)

Methods (Proposals Only)

Conclusions (Lit Reviews Only)

References

2. Check

the Paper for Flow – Does the paper makes sense to you?

Does the paper have the appropriate headings and subheadings? Does the flow make sense? (Does the information presented seem random or does it make sense to you?)

Does the writer explain or define complex terms and concepts?

3. Checka. Did the writer proofread his/her paper?

Does the writer substantiate definitive statements with a citation?

Check to see if the Conclusion section is written based on information found from the research and not just random thoughts outside of the research done by the writer.

Does the writer use the language of research?

APA Issues (Use Slide Deck as a checklist from the Writing Lab Enclosed)

Check for Title Page Errors

Check for obvious In-text citation errors

Check for Headings and Subheadings

Check References: Look for obvious errors (don’t need to check each item in the reference).

Ensure double spaced between lines and references (no more than double space...no additional spaces between references)

Check for presence of hanging idents

Check that references are in alphabetically order
