Your Research Proposal will be similar to the example from the textbook, but will include a couple more points that you don't see in this example.

  • Introduction Paragraph - Gives background information about the topic and why it is important.
  • Body Paragraph One - Describes the Research Question (and any relevant Sub-questions) and how you arrived at those questions.
  • Body Paragraph Two - Describes the Working Thesis Statement and how you arrived at it (in other words, describe your preliminary research - the googling, the reading, maybe some early database searching). This paragraph will also identify the Key Sub-points and how you arrived at those.
  • Body Paragraph Three - Describes the process you went through to find your Possible Source, including the Search Terms you used and how you used them (how many search term boxes you used at once, deciding to try a related term, restrictions like date or title)
  • Conclusion Paragraph - Tells where you go from here to start the official research for your paper. Be as specific as possible in discussing your next steps.

All of your body paragraphs should be well-developed paragraphs (5-7) sentences (Intro and conclusion can be a little shorter). At the end of your Research Paper Proposal, include the Works Cited Entry for your Possible Source. Click on that Cite button I showed you in the previous page, and then copy the lines of information that appear onto the end of your proposal.
