Introduction/analysis

Hello everyone, My name is Katie Carroll and I am 26 years old and live in Rome, GA. Currently, I work at Truett's Chick-fil-A as a back-of-house team member which means that I am part of the kitchen staff. As of right now, I am pursuing my Associate's degree in interdisciplinary studies to either become an HR or an Accountant, but do believe that I will pursue my Bachelor's degree next. What I like to do away from my job and doing school work is hiking, going on trips with my family, and volunteering at my church.

After reading the letter in this article, I believe that the education system used to be more strict on what books to read than today especially because in Kurt's letter it says that some of the characters spoke coarsely in which we would just say today cuss words. I believe that the school maybe just didn't want the students to read about violence, or use books with bad language in it, but I think that also, as Kurt said in the letter ( It is true that some of the characters speak coarsely, that is because people speak coarsely in real life. paragraph 5) Personally, I think Kurt was trying to use his book to get people to envision what being in a war is like and just using the bad language to make the story feel more like a real-life experience. But also, to me, I think that Kurt had the right to express his frustration with the staff of Drake High School because he found out that they were getting rid of his books as learning material when the school probably have used other stuff similar to Mr, Kurt's. In the letter, it says (I am among those American writers whose books have been destroyed in the now famous furnace of your school. paragraph 1) So to me, I think the school chairman got rid of any material that he didn't see fit but if he had just read the books he might have realized that these books are fit in the public classroom. Also, the letter says (certain members of your community suggested that my work is evil paragraph 2) To me, overall, I think the school chairman thought that these books weren't good for young people to read and just got rid of a lot of material.
