Reading Journal

To help you keep track of the reading and research that you are doing in the class, you are required to keep a reading journal. Your reading journal should have an entry for every text you read that week and the podcasts or speeches you have been assigned. For each source, I would like you to jot down the main ideas from the reading in a bulleted list; then I would like you to write a brief response collecting your thoughts and capturing connections you have made to other readings or other prior knowledge/experience you have with the topics. For the longer texts, you should have a bulleted list and response to each chapter you read.

The reading journal will not only help you to better understand the texts and how they relate to each other, it will help you to organize the information so that you can more easily find it when you need it for your essays. The journal entries should be completed immediately after you read a text or listen to the podcast. It will only take you about 5 minutes per text, but will save you a lot of time when you go to write your essays!
