Reflection Paper - Gender
Some of the sociological theories we discussed suggest that gender and gender identity are not core biological realities as much as they are performances that we all partake in. How might we view gender as being a “performance?” What are the implications of this view for how we see and experience gender in our lives? The social construction of gender often emphasizes or exaggerates gender differences and translates them into gender inequality. What examples or evidence do you see that supports or refutes this argument? Be sure to incorporate the concepts from the readings: sex vs. gender, sexism, sex roles, patriarchy, Glass Ceiling, institutionalized sexism, feminism, etc.
All Reflection Papers should be between 3–4 pages in length, typed, double-spaced with 12 point font and 1-inch margins. Reflection papers must make use of reference materials (course materials or outside readings), and must include in-text citations for the quotes or references made in your essay as well as a bibliography.
