Did the reforms taking place in the Roman Catholic Church in the eleventh and twelfth centuries solve the problems the Church faced better than other solutions offered at the time? What was the immediate significance of the reforms chosen?

I need this answered ASAP and preferrably a little more than 500 words since I am normally wordy in my answers. The book I have to use is A History of Western Society 11th edition by McKay, Crouton, Wiesner-Hanks, and Perry. If you do not have access to this history book then please do not bother to answer the question because I will double check that the information is consistent with the book.
