Good morning James! Logistics engineering is a new term and concept to me, I haven't heard of it before reading about it this week. I believe that having a scientific method for dealing with logistics is a great way to look at the data available and make the best, informed decisions based off that data. It is not that I don't believe in working with your instinct and when inspiration strikes, but I have learned since I have been in the logistics world, that data and proof rules and if you start making decisions that go against the data, you will eventually find yourself in trouble! Have you heard of logistics engineering before this week's lesson? Does it seem like a crazy concept to you, or do you think it makes sense in business? Thanks for sharing this week!

reply to student Chandler 250 words response class 353wk 1:

Logistics engineers look at processes throughout the supply chain such as transportation, processes and metrics, costs, and try to find ways to optimize them. "Logistics Engineers design or analyze operational solutions for projects such as transportation optimization, network modeling, process and methods analysis, cost containment, capacity enhancement, routing and shipment optimization, or information management" (What Do Logistics Engineers Do: Job Description, Responsibilities and Duties). Logistics engineering appears to consist of organizing the processes and functions within a logistical role and figuring out the best and most efficient way to make something work.

Logistics engineering and system engineering relate because they both require a step by step process in place to fill an operation need. "Key process steps include defining requirements, functional and system analysis and optimization, test and validation of requirements, production, utilization and sustainment, upgrades, and retirement. Logistics are part of each of these key processes from design to disposal. " (Quizlet).

Respond to the instructor question class 353 wk 1:

Think about this....Logistics engineering must be introduced early in the system acquisition. Why is that? And what is the outcome if it is not introduced early on?
