1.A qualitative, interpretive, phenomenological approach would be the best approach in that researchers report that physical activity was shown to be substantially and positively connected to life satisfaction, self-efficacy, and resilience (Koenders et al., 2020, p. 78). Life satisfaction was found to be positively related to self-efficacy and resilience, and self-efficacy was found to be positively related to resilience (Koenders et al., 2020, p. 78–79). In other words, there is a correlation between the variables mentioned above, in which self-efficacy and resilience may be influencing factors in the process of physical activity's influence on life satisfaction, which advantage might provide a foundation for further calibration of mediating effects in the follow-up. (Deng et al., 2023, p. 5).

RQ1: To what degree does life satisfaction correlate with daily journaling among college students?

RQ2:To what degree does physical activity correlate with life satisfaction in college students?

This design focuses on understanding the lived experiences of individuals from their own perspectives, which could be a challenge in that the researcher might experience bias and include one’s own perspective. The researchers aim to capture the essence of their experiences and how they perceive and make sense of the world. In this case, it would help delve into the subjective experiences of college students regarding the influence of physical activity on their overall well-being and life satisfaction (Deng et al., 2023, p. 5-6).

2.Qualitative research methods are useful when there is not a lot of research to make a prediction and one wants to collect subjective data. Qualitative descriptive is helpful when there is little research to support a hypothesis, producing a foundation as to what is being studied and why. Phenomenology captures a unique lived experience of a human being; focus being to capturing breadth and data not depth. A Case Study is an in depth analysis of an individual, group, organization etc using at least three sources of data and with a minimum 20 participants. A Narrative gathers and studies individual stories from a group, then synthesizes that information to tell a story which is supported by data. Grounded theory produces a theory or model describing the phenomenon. Typically, there are multiple stages of collecting large amounts of data, using multiple instruments and spending a lot of time in the field to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the subject (Milani & Hashemi, 2020, p. 94).

Qualitative research deepens one’s knowledge in a particular subject as the researcher collects data from multiple sources, using multiple methods. Phenomenology, Case Study, Narrative and Grounded theory are techniques that enable deep understanding of a subject, however, a disadvantage in regards to better understanding the relationships between variables. Thus, to choose the best design to conduct a study, the researcher must consider access to participants, researching a cultural phenomenon then synthesizing stories or gathering data to develop a new model or theory.
