Question: What are some challenges posed by strategic information systems and provide one specific example of how you think they can be addressed?

Student response

Some challenges with strategic information systems are the high cost, and extensive effort to implement such systems. Each implementation requires a lot of change management, which can create tension within the organization. Moreover, strategic information systems can be replicated by competitors fairly easily, reducing the amount of competitive advantage it provides. Lastly, not all implementations guarantee returns.

I think the best way to address a good chunk of these challenges is to establish a culture of innovation within your organization. From that, you can support hiring talent that is agile, flexible, and sees the value of change. Hiring more people with those competencies allows for easier change management and allows new business processes and initiatives to be supported by every employee.
