Some of the most interesting research in biopsychology has focused on ways to ameliorate the cognitive impairments associated with damage to structures like the hippocampus. None has been more interesting than the work of Dr. Ted Berger and his colleagues. Over the last fifteen years, they have developed a "neural prosthesis" or an electronic chip designed to mimic the information processing abilities of the hippocampus. A description of their work is available at http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/513681/memory-implants/.  Are there any ethical dilemmas facing this type of research. Is it related to the implantation of an artificial heart or kidney, or is there something "special" about the brain?
