Benefits for Teacher Researchers of Writing up their Research

The value for teacher researchers in writing up their research is that the act of writing helps each of them better understand the story they are trying to tell. A written account provides them with a permanent, accessible record for their professional and personal use. Writing about the research activities provides clarification. This task encourages teacher-researchers to thought and reflection and perhaps create new questions that are resolved, a process that shapes and completes the research (Mills, 2018).

Other reasons for teacher researchers to write up their action research include validation, empowerment, that it is a generative activity, and accomplishment. When teacher researchers publish their research, they will receive feedback from their reviewers and readers, which validate who they are as professional educators and what they do. Reflecting on their practices through writing will empower them to continue to challenge the status quo and be an advocate for their children. In addition, writing is a generative activity that culminates in a product, something tangible that teacher researchers can share with colleagues, supervisors, and parents. This provides them with a sense of accomplishment (Mills, 2018).

Strategies for Writing up the Action Research

One strategy that will assist me in writing up my research is to establish a writing routine. I think to do that by dedicating some time every day to keep up with field notes and data analysis rather than waiting until later in the process to reflect on the data. At the end of the process, I will be able to dedicate a block of time to read, reflect, and edit my work without other interruptions. Taking into account that the English language is not my native language, one strategy that will help me a lot is in the early stages, not to worry too much about how well the text reads or whether it is full of grammatical errors. As Mills (2018) proposes, firstly, I will write without consideration for grammar, syntax, or punctuation. I will concentrate on getting the story out. I will look for progress, not perfection. Also, If I am having trouble getting started, I will “write it in the way I talk.” The editing can come later. I will tell my story with an audience of colleague behavior analysts in mind, and the words will flow naturally. Mills (2018) point out that if we get hung up on writing for a large “academic” audience, the words will not come easily, and sentences may be stilted and formal.

Format of the Research Report

Format refers to the general pattern of organization and arrangement of the research report. The number and types of headings and subheadings to be included in the report are determined by the format used. The format of the article "'Come to my web (site),” said the spider to the fly: Reflections on the life of a virtual professor" follow the APA Style Manual. This written report presents different components: the headings, some of the phrases that are characteristic of particular sections of thew write-up, and the meaning of each section. These components coincide with the steps used in the action research process. The article presents the following sections: title, abstract, introduction, area of focus statement, research questions, review of related literature, data collection, data sources, data analysis and interpretation, final thoughts.

In the abstract of my research paper, I will present the overall purpose of my study and the research problem(s) I investigated, the intervention or innovation that I proposed. In the introduction I will announce my topic, I will provide context and a rationale for my work, before stating my research questions and hypothesis. In the area of focus statement, I will highlight the purpose of my study. The area of focus I choose refers to a situation that I wished to change and improved: a maladaptive behavior of students with special needs. This area of focus involves teaching and learning and focus on my own practice as a behavior analyst. I feel passionate about this topic. In relation to the research questions, I developed questions that breathe life into my area-of-focus statement and help provide a focus for my data collection plan. In the literature review section, I will present a synthesized research report of my area of focus. I will discuss diverse aspects of my topic. In the sections related to data collection, sources of data, and data analysis and interpretation, I will present the data collection techniques (quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods design), the sources of data and how the data results will be analyzed or interpreted. In the final thoughts section, I will summarize the findings and will conclude the thesis statement.

Writing up research

The write up of the researches helps the teacher-researchers to find new solutions to various problems and issues that may arise in the processes of teaching. The role of writing up research for them plays a vital role in assessing the processes and procedures to solve different difficulties that can arise in the school or classroom. The other benefit of the writing up researches revolves about the underpinning of professional knowledge and skills that is beneficial to the teacher-researchers (Fallon, 2019). Writing up research is also crucial to teacher-researchers in the sense that they can connect with new sources of information and networking.

Teacher/ researchers need to write up researches in class and school as it helps in the establishment of certain levels through various tasks as they progress with their teaching and educational sessions. The processes of writing help them to understand the unique levels of confidence that they need to portray to handle the different characteristics of each student. The issues and problems arising from learners are assessed and reviewed compellingly through the write-up researches. Teacher/researchers can handle various challenges in their duties through the continuous assessments on the writing up researches. The tasks are essential and crucial frequently to help the teachers acquire collaborative skills and interests that will help them investigate and assess their students. The teachers' research assists educators in establishing what skills and collaborations are needed in the classroom to maintain collaborative contact and understanding with their learners.

Validation of facts and concepts is also made possible through the utilization of these researches. The teachers can get validations from readers and other groups as qualified and experienced professionals in the field of learning. Professional educators provide the best write up research that will validate their levels of technical know-how. The write-up research by professional teachers also helps them to clarify different issues and standards of professional experiences that focus on establishing clear connections with their students (learners). Writing up research help teachers to assess and explore various contributions such as supporting them in mentoring different undertakings that will help them collaborate and get closer with their learners.

Different strategies exist to assist teacher-researchers in various capacities to write up their action research studies. Teachers are expected to utilize the strategies and techniques to strengthen their tasks and findings through collaborative processes and procedures. One of the policies is to focus on organizing and planning different conversations as well as establishing unique areas of focus to assist them in writing up their research studies (Mills, 2018). According to Mills (2018), other strategies are the identification of the individual steps and principles of self-assessments that will help them organize and converse appropriately with the learners or readers of their study; and writing up their action plan and journal write- ups. Most educators use journal writing time to put more efforts into their writing. Professional development days also enable teachers to have free days at least per term to concentrate on their writing strategies and progress. The value in writing up research is that the process of writing requires the writer to clarify meaning (…), therefore, the main reasons to write up research are clarification, validation, empowerment, the fact that it is generative, and accomplishment (Mills, 2018)

According to the sample of the annotated research article on page 241 to page 242, the format of the article features different steps and sections that help in the description of the statement, “come to my website,” said the spider to the fly: Reflections on the life of a virtual professor”The format of the article is as follows:

Catchy title: “come to my website,” said the spider to the fly: Reflections on the life of a virtual professor.”

Abstract-Highlights the intervention and innovation of the web-based class environment in teaching and also includes any crucial information related to the research topic (Fallon, 2019).

Introduction- Includes a comprehensive thesis statement and overview of what will be contained in the body of the article based on the research through a web-based class.

Context(body)- Highlights major teachings and reflections on web-based environments as well as the responses from individual students to research topic and interpretation to assist in analysis.

Area of focus statement- Highlights the purpose of the study, which is the description and integration of the details of web-based instructions on research in the class or school environment.

Research questions- Questions on the subject (topic) of research.

Literature Reviewed- Pieces of evidence on literature and other pieces of work as related to the topic under analysis.

Data collection, Sources of data and Data analysis and interpretation- Data collection techniques, sources of the data and how the data results will be analyzed or interpreted.
