Respond to classmate 150 word

The question they had to answer(Perform the OB Matters exercise on page 289 of the Ivancevich et al. text. After taking the exercise and analyzing your results, discuss how your findings may influence how you will lead or manage others, especially in conflict situations.  Are there areas in which you will need to learn new conflict management skills or behaviors?)

Classmate

The OB Matters exercise gave a lot of insight on ways to lead and manage others, especially in situations where there is conflict. The conflict styles that I scored the highest in were accommodating and avoiding and the lowest in competing. I am a person who likes to avoid conflict because it makes me uncomfortable. Also, I enjoy helping others, so it is no surprise that I scored high in the accommodating category.

As we all know, sometimes conflict is unavoidable. The text gave several variations and ways to resolve disputes effectively. Effective communication is a great way to dissolve an argument. If you can keep the conversation from turning negative and speak in a mild tone, it will help to keep the other participant calm. Understanding training is another element that can be used in conjunction with communication because it helps to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. When emotions are high and we focus on getting our point across, it is hard to see things from another person’s perspective. Many companies train their employees to use perception talk, which teaches employees to resolve confrontation by allowing them to see things from the other person’s perception. Another tool mentioned in the exercise is looking at conflict objectively. As I stated earlier, high emotions help to blur lines when arguing and can turn a situation from bad to worst. Both parties must stay objective and focus on the problem at hand. Even if the participant in the disagreement has a hard time staying on topic, you must steer the conversation back to the original situation.

In the future, I plan to use all of the information I found about my conflict style and ways to resolve conflict in my organization. I want to improve my conflict style avoidance because sometimes avoiding a situation can prolong a problem. Addressing issues sooner can make for a better and less stressful working environment. Also, I would like to take channel the side of me that enjoys challenges which can help me become more competitive.
