It is extremely important for recruiters to focus on finding leads with good communication skills because that is one of the most important qualities that must have already been learned before joining the organization. I once had a conversation with my cousin's husband who is a Psychotherapist for traumatized youth and adults. I was astounded by the huge impact communication skills have in everyone's everyday life. A lifetime of response to the information you’ve received really builds you into the person you are right now. Those that have practiced their communication skills throughout life are generally what we consider to be charismatic and likable people.
Donald Baack in the book Management Communication, shares different models of communication that explain this transmission and reception of information. The Transaction Model of communication is the more recent model used because of the complexity of our everyday communication and is described by Donald Baack as a dance by saying “The transaction model suggest that conversation more closely resemble a dance in which both parties socially construct the interaction.” This model accounts for the ability to overcome all the barriers a lifetime of communication may create in an interpersonal conversation.
A good recruiter is someone who can distinguish the difference between someone with good communication skills that will mesh seamlessly with the company's expectations on communication and someone with communication skills that won't. When you work with people who have worked on their communication skills then you minimize the risk of the barriers to individual communication which will ultimately lead to organizational success because everyone is working toward the same goal. In my experience barriers in the communication lead to employee relation issues, loss of revenue, and disciplinary action.
