It’s important to be flexible when leading an organization. Balance, flexibility, discipline and showing empathy are very important for leaders and managers of organizations. According to Baack (2017), “Leaders establish direction by communicating a vision and inspiring followers. Not all managers are effective leaders, and not all strong leaders are managers” (Ch.8.1). Each style of leadership should be used for the situation, being inflexible and having one style will make a person ineffective when dealing with subordinates, peers or employees in the organization. According to Baack (2017), “In an organizational context, leadership involves influencing the behaviors of individuals and groups to work toward predetermined goals” (Ch.8.1), leaders have to be able to influence people to work toward the objective and accomplish goals. Is it important to be wellliked, or are results all that matter? Cite examples that support your conclusions.
Respect is key in the workplace. It’s important to be well-liked, as a leader to a certain extent but results are important as well. No one would want to work with leaders who are not somewhat liked and may quit their job if they feel that the person is being unreasonable or does not care. Great leaders establish and have great culture in organizations. According to Baack (2017), “In practical terms, companies with strong cultures often exhibit lower levels of turnover few people quit or are fired” (Ch.2.1), turnover may occur if the leader is not liked enough. Productivity will increase with positive culture established by leaders. According to Baack (2017), “The net results can be improved productivity and a positive, social work atmosphere” (Ch.2.1). It’s vital to have a great work setting for leaders to be well liked while attaining the results for organizational productivity.
