The classroom teacher plays a large role in intervention and assessment of struggling readers. The classroom teacher assesses the student using formal and informal assessments and uses neccessary intervention strategies. The classroom teacher should be the first one to be able to identify signs of at risk students. Simply monitoring students reading ability along with formal assessments helps the teacher to identify with student. This also gives teacher the opportunity to use intervention instructions and strategies to further determine if the student is at risk. Simply pairing student with another student or working with the student indivdually to determine whether student may be at risk is an intervention strategy.
