1. In what ways can sociology help us attain perspective about things we don’t understand? What are some of the limitations of a sociological perspective?

2. Choose a recent family event and briefly write down your recollection of it. Then, ask another family member who was present to do the same thing. What was similar in your recounting of the situation? What was different? What do you think accounts for these similarities and differences?

Aside from oil changes and Christmas trees, what are some other examples of McDonaldization that you come into contact with in your daily life? What do you gain by patronizing those establishments over their McDonaldized counterparts? What do you sacrifice?
