CISD

One of the most controversial topics in the field of crisis intervention is the efficacy of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. There is a school of thought that believes this approach is ideal for front-line workers but should not be considered a therapeutic approach. You will look at this dilemma and examine the benefits as well as the drawbacks to the CISD approach to crisis intervention.

Before the Seminar, be sure you have read the article “The Debriefing Controversy” by Everly and Mitchell. You will discuss the following subjects:

• Does CISD hurt the recovery and processing of traumatic incidents for front-line workers?
• What is the best strategy to address the potential risks of being part of a crisis situation?
