Self Assessment Assignment
Possible Points: 50
The nomenclature of our course is somewhat misleading. When students see the course identification, SPCH (SPEECH), they often are discouraged to sign up for a class that would subject them to nervously presenting a speech in the presence of their classmates. While part of the course requirement includes speech presentations – our work goes beyond public speaking.
The Self Assessment Assignment starts with the first day of class – this is to say, describe your (honest) initial thoughts of the course prior to registration and start date of class. Then respond to the following questions – Why am I taking this course and what does this course mean to my academic journey?
The above is the first of this two part assignment.
The goal of learning is to grow from one place of reality to another. Our growth like change occurs every single second of our existence. Physical and Physiological growth are evident and for the most part uncontrollable. We are all influenced (positively or otherwise) by ideologies and conflicts; and our reaction to them determines whether we mentally/psychologically grow or stagnate. The hope is aspects of this class (conflicts and ideas) have in some way impacted your mental acuity - to this end, the second part of this assignment requires you to describe your (honest) thoughts of this course – what chapters, topics, or discussions have impacted you – explain how and why. Select two topics and explain how they apply to your everyday life prior to and subsequent to the commencement of this course.
1. Your responses must be in an essay format of 350 to 500 words (Times New Roman 12 font 1.5 space) with an Introduction, Body and Conclusion.
2. Your essay must reflect proper grammatical construction, spelling, definitions and clear articulation
3. Please do not forget to put your name, course name, number and section on the essay
4. Please email the completed essay (Word Document) no later than Monday 2 May 2016 on or before 6:00 p.m.
If you use external sources/resources to support any particular point(s), please be sure to submit a Works Cited Page (APA only for references and citation) with your final essay.
