Sexual misconduct should be a rare scenario within the family setting.
Sexual misconduct should be a rare scenario within the family setting. Family members
have so much trust with each other because that's their blood, and they believe that they would
never do anything to hurt them in any shape or form. However, that's not the case, according to
Perpetrators of Sexual Violence statistics, most victims of sexual assault know their perpetrators
and 34% of these offenders where family members to the victims. This shows that there is a high
number of family members who get assaulted and the media does not report it on a daily basis.
The media does not like to discuss topics like this related to families because that is not what
attract viewer as supposed to popular celebrity topics, trending films etc. Some families think its
advisable not to discuss the issue of sexual misconduct to the media because it an emotional
topic to touch on when it has to do with their family members so they would rather keep it
private. Another reason is because they fear their family member, who is the sex offender would
hurt them even more. Others think reporting to the media will bring shame to the family. On the
other side of this argument, family members believe that such cases should be reports to the
media, because it brings awareness and victims can relate to the issues discussed and get the
necessary help that they need. For examples Oprah Winfrey, who is a public figure talked about
how she was sexually assaulted at the age of 9 by her uncle. Her speaking out about her story
brought more victims to about their stories and get help. This shows how sexual misconduct
among families is an intense topic which needs more attentions.
In other countries like India, Asia, Middle East and North Africa, the rate of women
sexually abused is extremely high. Women in countries like this go through series of rape and
sexual misconduct every day. The article Sexual harassment state that "In Egypt, a 2013 report
by UN Women found that 99% of women surveyed across seven regions in the country had
experienced some form of sexual harassment." This explains how women in other countries like
Egypt are being sexually assaulted or raped by the men. Women in African countries like Nigeria
experiences series of sexual abuse and rape exceptionally in the villages. According to the article
Boko Haram kidnaps hundreds, tells stories of Chibok girls, In 2014, 216 females students where
abducted by an Islamic group called Bukom Haram in Nigeria. The girls where sexually
assaulted and was forced to marry some of their abducted. Some of the girls were sold as sex
slaves to Isis and people in different countries. This Islamic group believe sexual abuse is the
right thing to do because is their culture and that women are supposed to serve their men with
sex and other things instead of going to school. People in Nigeria believed the girls being
kidnapped was an unlawful act and the government should do something about it. In March 2017
the girls where finally released, some of the girl had died through all this sexual abuse and
