QUESTION

Short Answer 1. Why is it incorrect to say that an object is partially sterile? 2. Enzymes are proteins. Why is the converse generally not true?

Are my answers correct on this Hw assignment? I have a midterm at 11 and the answer key wasn't posted.

I'm not sure whether my stoichiometry is right because I know an E.coli cell has 50% carbon but I may be overthinking it.

Short Answer1. Why is it incorrect to say that an object is partially sterile?2. Enzymes are proteins. Why is the converse generally not true?Problems3. Assume you are conducting a growth experiment with E. coli growing aerobically withacetate as the sole carbon and energy source. Acetate is completely mineralized (allacetate is converted to CO2) under aerobic conditions. In the beginning of yourexperiment you inoculate your medium with a culture of E. coli so that the initial cellmass is 0.3 mg dry weight mL". The initial acetate concentration is 80 mM. Afterincubation for 5 hours at 369C, 18 mM acetate is left in your medium and your biomassincreased to 3.3 mg dry weight mL" . [Table 3.2 in your textbook has useful values forthis problem.]a. Write the balanced equation for the mineralization reaction and calculate AG'.b.What is the molar growth yield (Ys) in grams biomass per mol substrate for E. coliusing acetate as an energy source? How much acetate was used in catabolismand how much in anabolism?4. Determine the average redox potential (E.') of the conjugated redox couple SO."-/so.Hint: One way to determine this value is to start with the following equation:250 + 302 + 2H20 -> 25042 + 4H*AGO' =-1174 kl/reaction
