Some people find it difficult to understand that other cultures have very different beliefs, customs, and religious practices which they, too, have been taught from birth is the one true way. . . Remember that the word "religion" does not equal one particular religion, and while three of the larger religions of the world are based in the Abrahamic tradition (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), many other faiths also exist, and each has its cultural stories and practices.
The mythology that we are studying here comes from the stories of ancient and modern religions. No one is being asked to evaluate or change his or her personal beliefs, only to consider how others may be different, or similar but with a different story.
How can we look at these diverse stories without feeling a need to defend or proselytize our own personal beliefs?
