As a special education scholar, maintaining a level of academic and professional integrity is essential as you safeguard students’ rights to confidentiality; yet, ensure they receive appropriate educational services and resources.
For this Discussion, you will explore academic integrity as part of a larger value system and how it influences your work as a special education professional.
To prepare:
· Review Walden’s Dispositions and Diversity Proficiencies, as well as the CAEP and CEC Standards. Consider what it means to be a professional with integrity as it regards to the dispositions and standards related to the field of special education.
· Review the resources on how to upload a video for your Discussion post in the Kaltura Media Uploader link under Course Home
· Enter the Grand City Interactive Community and locate West Ridge Middle School. Re-view the case study video titled, “The New Student.”
· Think about your personal definition of integrity. How does this definitions guide you both academically and professionally as a leader in the field of special education? Consider how your own definition would affect how you would work with Jamal and his mother.
Please address the following questions:
· What do you consider will be the most challenging in modeling integrity as a leader in special education?
· What does the research say about ethical implications and issues of integrity in the field of special education?
· What situations involving ethical implications and issues of integrity have you experienced in the field of special education? Is there anything you wish you would have done differently?
· What ethical implications and issues of integrity may surface in working with Jamal and his mother?
