Start by reading and following these instructions:

1. Quickly skim the questions or assignment below and the assignment rubric to help you focus.
2. Read the required chapter(s) of the textbook and any additional recommended resources. Some answers may require you to do additional research on the Internet or in other reference sources. Choose your sources carefully.
3. Consider the discussion and the any insights you gained from it.
4. Create your Assignment submission and be sure to cite your sources, use APA style as required, check your spelling.
5. The average length of response to each of the prompts should be between 375 - 400 words.

Assignment:

1. Define, provide fresh examples from the Internet, compare, and contrast and describe the styles of Impressionism with Post-Impressionism and at least one other style from the period with formalism and rigor.
2. Compare and contrast Art Nouveau with the industrial style of the Eiffel Tower. Use concrete examples, critical analysis methods and use appropriate formal terms from the world of art in your answer.
3. The style of van Gogh’s work changed over his life. Identify another artist of this period, be it painting or some other media, who’s art has changed dramatically for whatever the reason. Describe this artist’s style critically, use specific examples, before and after the change and provide insights into what might have been at the root of the change.
4. Technology growth accelerated dramatically and some of these advancements had significant influence on art, both by changing aspects of transitional art and introducing whole new media. Identify an art form that was significantly transformed during this period or which came into existence during this period, critically analyze the change or the unique aspects of the new form, and explain the role technology played in the change or the creation.
5. Reading the blog posting about the landscape painter George Inness (1825-1894) and his own words about the changes he was going through. Find at least one other artist from the period that was struggling to be true an internal vision of art as opposed to what patrons wanted or what critical thought was valid and good. Describe the artist and specific works that typify the notion of “visionary genius” (see the additional resource below) using the methods and techniques from the course.
