Summarize your initial observations or data.  This is not your completed manuscript but a check point to see if the data is supporting your hypothesis and whether or not you will need to reorient your topic in a different direction.  Do not describe this in a lot of detail (that will come in your final submission) but list and summarize the data that you have found up to this point.  You will need to be specific of course and not just say "I found a lot of things".  You might say that the water I collected from each city was found to have x amount of aluminum etc.  In your final paper, you can then explain what the data means, how it ties into your hypothesis (or doesn't tie into it) and whether or not more studies need to be done.
