Take some time to answer the following questions. Write down your thoughts so you can look at them later and also discuss with others. 

1. What are rights? What do people have a right to?

2. What are privileges (i.e. what do people deserve because they have earned it)?

3. Is it fair to take from one group and give to another group? When is it fair? Does it have to do with rights or privileges? When is it a form of justice and when is it an infringement on people's freedom?

Take a moment to read your responses and reflect on them. Do any themes emerge? Are you surprised by any of your responses? What beliefs do you think underlie your answers?  Where do these beliefs come from? How comfortable are you with your responses?
