The article is an overview of the different things to consider before you select and implement a program.  As you read, think about the different factors that help individuals determine a need for a specific type of youth programming for their community.

For the Module 1 dropbox assignment, you will be asked to identify the steps (make a plan) to determine a need for a youth program in your community.

For Module 1, you are not implementing your plan for determining a need. You are indicating (in the assignment template) what you would do to determine a need for a youth program.

You are not executing (carrying out) the steps or plan.

Planning ahead for your culminating project (or final project in this course):

In Module 7, you will create an original youth program plan. For this plan, you will be asked to craft a short needs statement. What you learn about determining and supporting the need for youth programming (specifically using data, stats and other research) will help you write this needs statement.

Pay attention to the data or research (Afterschool Alliance resource below is a good start) that indicates that youth programming is a positive. You can use this to help you make a case for your program plan project in Mod 7.

Summer program is a literacy program for African America boys ages 11-14. The name of the summer program is Moment of Voice where they will learn about poetry and other writings from African American men.
