The article needs to have published within the last year

Written Summary

The written summary of the article should be about 3-4 paragraphs long.  It must include at least the following information: 

1. Overview (paragraph 1)

• Title
• Author, Source, and Date
• Main topic

1. Evaluation (1-2 paragraphs)
   • Summarize the three main ideas included in the article. Write a summary of the article using your own words. Assume you are educating your reader about this topic and include helpful background information.
   • Describe how the article connects to science.
2. Reflection (1-2 paragraphs). Write a thoughtful and reflective critique to what you read.
   • Some things you might address include:
     • What did you learn that was new and how would you apply this information to a different situation or setting? (How else could this knowledge be used?)
     • What further questions do you have about this topic? (Construct new questions for the author, what else should be explored?)
   • Talk about the relevance of the subject matter to your own life.
3. Other (end of the assignment)
   • Include a specific citation for your article in APA format
   • Optional: Include any new or unfamiliar vocabulary words you found while reading this article and their definitions.

Presentation

Do a PowerPoint for the presentation.  The presentation should contain similar information to your summary and include at least the following: 

1. A title slide (title of article, author, source, date, direct link to the article)
2. A brief description of the article in your own words (1 – 2 slides)
3. Relevance: Explain why you think others should care about the information in the article (1 – 2 slides)
4. Some pictures/visuals that complement the presentation

• Optional:
  • An explanation of how the science community is impacted by the article
  • What do you see in the future for this area/topic?
  • Other information from your written summary.
