Purpose:  Emails are the most common kind of professional correspondence.  This assignment will ask you to apply the research you completed in the Audience Analysis Assignment to writing a professional email.

Step 1:  Consider the following situation: You will graduate from College soon and are hoping for a job with the employer you researched in the Audience Analysis Assignment. 

Step 2:  Write an email to the employer you hope to work for. Ask for an informational interview.  That is a 20 minute meeting between you and the employer. You ask the employer questions and hopefully pave the way to an eventual job interview.  At the very least, you learn more about your future career field.

Step 3: Do some planning.  Who should the email be directed to?  How can you write an email that will appeal to someone at this company.  Consider the audience analysis you just completed and write the email with those employer preference and values in mind.

Step 4:  Write a draft of your email. Proofread carefully.

Step 5:  Finally, format everything as you would an e-mail  Add a To: From: and Subject: line.  Remember to keep paragraphs short.  Consider adding bulleted lists.  And choose a suitable salutation and closing.
