Clearly, building and maintain a modern military force is complex work that requires intense organization and planning; the people in the Pentagon have tough decisions to make with then they sit down and look at these variables. This discussion asks you to consider some of the difficult decisions faced by military planners.

Specifically, this discussion asks you to consider weapons systems, their cost, and the ethical conditions of their use. You will select one weapon system that you believe will be the most beneficial to the United States in the coming decades, consider how costly that weapon might be, and how ethical its use is.

To do so, please complete the following steps:

1. Read Chapters 5, 6, and 7 in the textbook.
2. In one paragraph, explain which weapon system described in Chapter 5 is most critical to the safety and security of the United States. Be sure to explain your reasoning.
3. In one paragraph, justify the cost of building, developing, or maintaining that weapon system. Determine if your selection is a cost-effective way of ensuring security, keeping in mind that the American taxpayer is already heavily strapped and other aspects of the budgeting process outlined in Chapter 6.
4. In one paragraph, explain whether the weapon system you have chosen would be ethical to use on opponents of the United States. Be sure to explain your definition of ethics, why you selected this definition of ethics, and exactly how the weapon system is or is not ethical based on this definition.
