The conflict of the play revolves around the question of which should be more important--our dedication to tradition and family or our dedication to the law and authority. On one end, we have Antigone, standing by her family and the gods. On the other, Creon upholding the law and the authority of the state. Both Antigone and Creon suffering horribly as a result of their dedication.
