The Criminal Justice System comes in three components (policing, courts, and corrections). When the topic of due process vs. crime control it can be explained by defining and understanding both. Due process entitles everyone a fair trial. Whereas crime control places emphasis on reducing the crime. This system is a never-ending battle to keep people safe but also give fairness to everyone. The question of whether society should put more into individual rights vs. public order is one that will continue to be a struggle. According to Schmalleger (2019), due process is a right guaranteed by the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution.

When I look at the meaning of consensus or conflict model and think of diversity, I cannot help but to think of how often the criminal justice system fails society. The reason being is because so many organizations pull back and forth with these two. The consensus model leans more so towards a mutual goal that is benefiting to everyone. Which one would think that that makes the most since considering that we live in such a diverse society? According to Vuolo (2014), it states that “they recommend ways that legal authorities can help bring moral values into line with legal values, even if that means abandoning moral values that are an artifact of multiculturalism.”

In the policing component of criminal justice, it is important they every member of the organization is on the right side because it can be so easy for things to go wrong being, so they interact with so many diverse groups one on one every day. Also, the courts must grant fair treatment for everyone because it is written in the Constitution. People have a right to a fair hearing no matter what the crime, their gender, or race. According to Prorok (2017), it states that “relatively fewer studies address the court's effectiveness or its impact on peace and conflict.” Finally, in the corrections those people must see the offender’s day in and day out. So, it is my opinion that when the corrections workers are over worked and understaffed it is so easy for them to lose sight over the rights and wrongs.
