The educational reform movement that allows parents to choose the elementary or secondary school their children will attend is known as school choice. Under a school choice program, the state would give parents a voucher that would provide a type of scholarship to be paid to the school that the parents select for their child to attend. Some proponents of parental choice would allow parents to choose not only from among public schools but also from among private schools, including religious schools and online schools. School choice is certain to be a major issue in this spring’s legislative sessions.

If you were a member of the Texas legislature, would you vote to enact a school choice program in Texas? Why or why not?
