The Learning Autobiography serves to provide a detailed, accurate picture of your learning. Remember that one of the things that the evaluator will consider is whether you demonstrate college-level writing skills. This is the only narrative in your Portfolio, and therefore it is your best opportunity to showcase your college-level writing skills in your Portfolio by using complete sentences, well-formed paragraphs, standard college writing format, and so forth. It is very important that you write clearly, follow guidelines for Standard Written English, spell properly, and use proper punctuation. So proofread, proofread, and proofread! You might also want to consider having someone you trust as an editor help you with your final proofing and editing.

Remember, a Strong Learning Autobiography:

•Is clearly written in chronological order

•Highlights your experiences

•Describes, in detail, the learning you acquired from those experiences

•Describes, in detail, how your learning has grown as a result of those experiences

•Clearly articulates your learning

One of the most common questions about the autobiography is: “How long should it be?” The ideal length for the Learning Autobiography is the length that you need to present your case. Do not make it too long or too detailed, but do not omit important things either.
