The Mid-Term Exam consists of 3 essay questions, each requiring a substantive response of at least 500 words - not counting the question, direct quotes, or your references.  Responses must contain the depth and detail needed to fully answer the primary question and all sub-questions.  You are required to adhere to APA guidelines, including the use of in-text citations and use at least two scholarly references for each essay response.  Do not use any of the required readings from the Lessons.  Remember that scholarly references are peer reviewed articles from professional journals, easily found in the school online library.  The exam questions pertain to information located in your Open Educational Resources (OER) for Weeks 1-3, but questions will require the use of outside sources.

1.  Identify and Describe Broken Windows Theory and how it can be used to reduce crime.Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the theory.Of the weaknesses you've identified above, explain what you consider to be the main criticism of the Broken Windows theory and why.

2.  Explain why police patrol methods have remained reactive in nature for decades. 

Numerous studies have shown patrol has little effect on crime or the fear of crime. If so, why do departments refuse to change? 

3.  List and describe the limitations of modern patrol allocation models. Select one limitation which you feel is especially concerning and why. What would you recommend as a possible solution to the limitation you have identified?
