The movie “Amadeus” is a fictionalized version of the relationship of the composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. It is very entertaining, but how much of it is based on fact?  To find out, answer the following questions:

1. Is the portrayal of Mozart a complete caricature or is there an element of truth in it?

2. The movie makes Salieri look like a mediocre composer. Is this accurate? What was Salieri’s reputation at the time? How is he regarded now?

3. The film also hints at some of the social and political changes that were taking place during Mozart’s lifetime. Cite one specific scene or event in the film and explain how it illustrates this.

4. In the movie the issue of language in opera is a point of contention.  Was this really an issue or is it just something mad up for the movie?
