The new marketing manager of UNION Brasseries PLC who was recruited 6 months ago, is part of a team involved in brainstorming name ideas for a new product. The meeting consists of people of various ages, various internal departments and various levels of seniority and authority within the company. The branding team has been brainstorming for the last 2 hours, filling up pages and pages of the flipchart with innovative, imaginative names. The session consists of team members who are loudly, quickly, and assertively shouting out suggestions. Everyone else in this meeting is generating many good ideas that the new marketing manager feels confident about finding a new name for a product.

1.   Given this atmosphere, should the new marketing manager feel comfortable jumping in and shouting out ideas? Why or Why not?

2.   Assuming that the marketing manager was leading this team and saw a member not participating, what should he do? Is a lack of participation on the part of a member ethical and fair? Why or why not?
