1) Find Vicksburg, near the west side of the map. The Mississippi River is shown in the area west of the city. Explain the unusual shape of the state line between Louisiana and Mississippi, particularly around such features as Racetrack Towhead, De Soto Island, and Paw Paw Island.
2) Vicksburg has port facilities to accommodate shipping, but they are located slightly northwest of the city near the area labeled Waltersville. In order to keep this port open, the narrow channel between Vicksburg and De Soto Island must be artificially maintained. Why was the port placed here? Why keep it there now instead of relocating it along the main channel of the river?
