The opening case discusses how Atlassian, a growing multinational business software company, began using virtual teams.  The company acquired a project management company whose staff was almost entirely remote, which intrigued them.  They designed and started one virtual team.  If this experiment succeeds, Atlassian plans to expand the number of virtual workers on its 4,000-member staff.  The case presents the following two questions. 

1. As you study this chapter, think about the benefits of approaching problems as a team.  Are there also challenges in team building and teamwork?

2. What possibilities for greater success can be realized if a team, virtual or not, is well designed and well led?
