The Priesthood/temple are corrupt God is going to send a messenger
1. Though the book of Jonah is one of the shortest in the Bible, it is one of the most interpreted over time. It gets referenced in Matthew 12:38-45 and Luke 11:29; illustrated in numerous art forms; and alluded to in the Pinocchio story. Read through the text, and then list as many other "interpretations" of Jonah you can think of. Where do you see resonances with Jonah in art, culture, music, sermons, etc.? (I am not looking for specific answers, just for things you might have seen or heard.)
2. Reflect on the statement about God changing God's mind in Jonah 3:10. What is the literary context, both in the book of Jonah and in the larger Old Testament? What is your own context, and how does that affect your understanding of that statement?
3. There are two basic messages in the book of Malachi: one is the message of God's anger at the corruption in the priesthood and temple, and the other is that God is going to send a messenger. Pay close attention to how both messages are described, making a list of what stands out to you.
