The project will consist of the development of an off-site database failover site for the example company that you will create along with the other processes listed below. The company's primary IT facility is in Chesapeake, VA. Let's assume that the company's IT infrastructure contains the following systems:

  1. The company uses a server farm consisting of 48 HPUX 2U servers.
  2. The company currently uses Network Attached Storage (NAS) to store their main Oracle database db files.
  3. The company backs up their db files to the NAS and uses Oracle RMAN to perform data recovery. The company also backs their data up to an automated tape backup system which would be utilized in the event that both the in-house system and the proposed failover system were destroyed by a disaster.
  4. The company recently acquired an off-site location to build their failover site which is in Martinsburg, WV.

The project events consist of moving and implementing the storage facility from the current NAS to a Storage Area Network (SAN) and implementing a second SAN in the Martinsburg, WV failover site to maintain the failover database. The SAN development at both sites needs to be a simultaneous event. The project will also require that the current T-1 communications lines be upgraded to T-3.

The company's IT staff is adequate to perform the project, however, the team that maintains the NAS needs to attend training for SAN building and implementation.

The company believes that the project can be completed in a three-month time frame.

You will need to use Microsoft Project 2010 to develop and document your term project.

The project documentation uploaded to the Moodle site. A list of weekly project deliverable is located below.
