The Situation

 For our assignment you will create a networks diagram for an imaginary business (You may name the company whatever you like). The business we are designing for has 2 separate locations in Florida. One location in Boca Raton and the other in Tallahassee. Currently, there are a total of 60 employees but our company has plans to continue to expand in the very near future. The Boca location is the main branch of the company and houses many of the employees. In the office there are a total of 60 workstations as well as 8 printers/copiers. Our sales force in both locations have laptops that are company property for a total of 10 laptops. Our employees have the option of logging in to company resources via their own personal devices. There are 4 departments including ALL of the Information Technology staff. Each department is capable of housing 15 employees even though this is not currently the case. Our servers are in the Boca location. Both locations have internet access as well as company specific applications that allow or business to run. Both branches communicate mainly through instant messaging but they have cloud services for file storage that allow them to work from any location and to share information with each other. The Tallahassee location houses the remainder of our employees and only 2 departments. They have 2 employees that operate their helpdesk and support. This location houses an additional 30 workstations. They have 5 printers/copiers. Our customers can securely log in from home to view specific information on their account statuses, as well as receive updates and customer support.

 The assignment

 Your assignment is to create a physical network diagram to support the situation described above. In class we have discussed the different network topologies that will allow you to design a network to accomplish all the tasks described above. Make sure that you identify the equipment that you will use your design. Next, it may be a good idea to group the equipment by location and begin to design your topology. After you have done this you can begin to add connections to your network. It is vital that you do not forget to label the pieces your diagram. As you work log your reasons for the decisions you are making because this will begin to shape your company's security policy. You need to secure the network from external and internal threats but still provide availability of resources. Your deliverables for this assignment are a Visio diagram and a short description of your diagram. Include in your description the reasoning of your design and use of network elements such as firewalls, routers, and vpn access. Also, describe how your diagram responds to employees working from either location, employees access to resources, client access to resources, and company expansion.
